1,061,622. Pneumatic tyres. MICHELIN & CIE. May 29, 1965 [June 4, 1963], No. 22353/64. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre assembly comprises an outer tyre 2 and an independent load-bearing inner tyre 1 having beads 3, 4 respectively seated upon one and the same wheel rim 7 and maintained thereon by the inflation pressure, the tyres 1, 2 being shaped so that they are out of contact with each other under normal running conditions except at their crowns where they are constantly maintained pressed one against the other. The inner tyre 1 is treadless and provided with a carcass comprising two plies 8 of parallel cords running in intersecting directions. The crown of the tyre is coated with a layer of anti-friction rubber 9 in which are formed grooves 10 for connecting the annular spaces 11 between the side-walls of the two tyres. The tyre 2 is formed with a carcass of two plies of parallel cords which lie in intersecting directions, and the inside wall is coated with sealing rubber 17. In a modification, both tyres 1, 2 are provided with radial cord carcasses, the tread of the tyre 2 being reinforced with two superposed plies of parallel cords. A layer of circumferential cords is arranged radially inwardly of the carcass ply of the tyre 2 in order to reduce radial expansion of the crown portion of the tyre. |
