PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subfield generation device and a subfield generation method capable of solving a problem that a jaggy is recognized in a display of diagonal lines in 3-D display using a conventional method of display while thinning images.SOLUTION: A subfield generation device 100 is configured including: a line thinning target subfield determination device 150 that determines a subfield as a target of line thinning and a subfield which is not a target of line thinning on an original subfield constituting a frame image based on image characteristics of the frame image; a first subfield generation section 134 that generates M first output subfields in which thinned lines of the thinned subfield including thinned lines are interpolated; and a second subfield generation section 135 that generates second output subfields from N full line display subfield in which lines are not thinned.
