An apparatus may include a processor circuit, a memory, and a networking stack for execution on the processor circuit to generate a request message to establish a communications session, the request message including a first globally unique identifier (GUID) that identifies the apparatus and second GUID associated with a target device, generate an application identifier that specifies a connection protocol to be used to conduct the communications session, and initiate the communications session upon receipt of the second GUID associated with the target device.
