<p>A heat source (2) for a smoking article has an upstream end (4) and an opposed downstream end (6) and comprises a combustible carbonaceous core (8) and an integral,non- combustible, thermally insulating, peripheral layer (10). The core (8) extends from the upstream end (4) of the heat source (2) to the downstream end (6) of the heat source (2). The peripheral layer (10) extends from the upstream end (4) of the heat source (2) only part way along the length of the heat source (2) and circumscribes an upstream portion (12) of the core (8).</p> |
