An aqueous composition containing a water soluble cyclopropyl-1-enyl- propanoic acid salt (CPAS) of formula (I) as described in the specification and a bicarbonate-containing solution is disclosed. Further disclosed are kits for producing or providing the composition and methods utilizing the composition for antagonizing ethylene action in a plant and/or delaying senescence of a cut plant.
