The electromagnet (1) has a bobbin (3) arranged with an energizable coil (5), where an armature (7) is movable upon energizing the coil. A stationary magnetic sensor (9) determines a position of the armature. A stationary permanent magnet (11) is suitably arranged such that the armature is connected to a magnetic component of the permanent magnet, where the armature varies the magnetic field generated by the permanent magnet such that a position detection of the armature is possible. The permanent magnet is placed in the immediate vicinity to the magnetic sensor.
