Heading C2C. ]Also in Division B1] Cyclic alcohols or ketones are dehydrogenated to yield corresponding phenols in the presence of catalysts made by impregnating SiO 2 of surface area 100-300 m<SP>2</SP>/gm., pore volume 0À7-1À3 cm<SP>3</SP>/gm. and an alkali metal content of 0À4-5% expressed as Na 2 O, with compounds of Cu, Ni and Cr in aqueous solution, and then drying, calcining and reducing in the presence of hydrogen. Specified starting compounds are cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone, 3- methyl cyclohexanol, 1:2-cyclohexanediol, α- tetralol or 3-5-dimethyl cyclohexanone. Examples describe the preparation of phenol itself. |
