This negative electrode for lithium ion secondary batteries is composed of a collector and a negative electrode active material layer that covers the surface of the collector. The negative electrode active material layer contains a negative electrode active material which contains silicon, a silane-modified polyamide-imide which is represented by general formula (I) and has an alkoxysilyl group and a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of from 5,000 to 70,000 (inclusive), and a high molecular weight polyamide-imide which has a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of from 70,000 to 160,000 (inclusive).
