The invention concerns a compact device for producing monochromatic electron clusters which enables the radiation detectors to be calibrated precisely. The device according to the present invention detects the electrons emitted by an emission source beta and selects them according to their energy level by applying a magnetic field, the magnetic field varying with the intensity of the current supplied to the electromagnets producing said field. The invention also concerns a method for calibrating the detectors and a method for measuring the profile of electron clusters, said methods employing the abovementioned device.
