PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an olefin, particularly, a lower olefin having 2 to 7 carbon atoms with high selectivity by cracking a hydrocarbon.SOLUTION: Provided are a method for producing a hydrocarbon, wherein a hydrocarbon having 4 or more carbon atoms is cracked by using a porous metal complex; the method for producing a hydrocarbon according to the foregoing, wherein at least one covalent bond selected from the group consisting of a carbon-carbon single bond, a carbon-carbon double bond, a carbon-carbon triple bond and a carbon-hydrogen single bond of the hydrocarbon having 4 or more carbon atoms is cracked; and the method for producing a hydrocarbon according to either of the foregoing, wherein a hydrocarbon having 2 to 7 carbon atoms is produced.
