The present invention relates to a satellite communication system which restores a native segment using an extra segment which is network-coded by additionally transmitting the extra segment with the negative segment through a satellite communication network when the negative segment is lost due to a wireless channel error; and a method for the same. Also, the present invention optimally determines the number (R) of the extra segment, which is network-coded, based on the packet error rate and the amount of extra resource of a satellite communication.
