PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent preliminary discharge from being performed at every fixed intervals at which discharge is performed to form an image even in the case of performing on-sheet preliminary discharge at fixed intervals.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus provides ink drops discharged from a discharge port formed in a recording head to a recording medium to form an image. The device includes: image data generation means for generating image data for forming the image; preliminary discharge means for discharging ink drops, which do not form an image, from the discharge port to a region where the image of the recording medium is formed; and counting means for counting pixels for forming the image. When a count value of the counting means reaches a predetermined value, the image data of the pixels of the predetermined value is set as preliminary discharge data for performing preliminary discharge by the preliminary discharge means to reset the count value. |
