The device (1) has a detection unit (1.1) for detecting a charging state of the individual cells and a control unit (1.2) for the extraction of electric energy from the individual cells with high charging state. A conversion unit (1.3) is provided for converting the extracted electrical energy into electromagnetic radiation. The conversion unit comprises a light source (1.3.1) which determines light as electromagnetic radiation. The conversion unit is arranged within the battery housing. An independent claim is included for a method for operating an electric accumulator battery.
