1,173,176. Polymers KALLE A.G. 24 Aug., 1967 [25 Aug., 1966], No. 39101/67. Addition to 1,088,300. Headings C3C and C3P. In the process of Specification 1,088,300 for the manufacture of polymers by reacting in the liquid phase a polyisocyanate and a compound having a carbonyl group and at least one other carbonyl or reactive hydrogen containing group, there is used as carbonyl compound a copolymer of molecular weight 400 to 5000 of one or more unsaturated 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and one or more other unsaturated compounds and containing 10 to 90 weight per cent of said 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds. At elevated temperatures foamed products are formed. The polymer may be derived from vinyl or allyl acetoacetate or allyl acetylacetone; and vinyl chloride, vinyl bromide, vinylidene chloride, vinyl phosphonic acid esters, vinyl acetate, vinyl isobutyrate, ethylene, styrene, acrylic and methacrylic esters. Mixtures of polymers containing phosphorus and halogen may be employed and antimony oxide may be present, together with fillers, e.g. sand, mica and asbestos. In examples, foamed plastics are prepared from diphenylmethane diisocyanate and (1 to 3) a mixture of propoxylated pentaerythritol tetraacetoacetate, a copolymer of allyl acetoacetate and vinyl chloride and a copolymer of allyl acetoacetate, vinyl acetate and vinyl isobutyrate; (4) a copolymer of allyl acetoacetate, vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate; (5) a copolymer of allyl acetoacetate, vinylidene chloride and vinyl isobutyrate; and (6) allyl acetoacetate and vinyl chloride. |
