A woodworking machine comprises a machine table 1, an upper cutting unit 2, adjustable along transverse grooves 5 in the table, a vertical lower tool spindle 9 mounted in the machine table, and a stop-bar 10 adjustably fixed in longitudinal grooves in the machine table. The machine also comprises a circular saw 4 and a feed-wheel 3 carried by beams 6, 7 which are adjustable about posts 3a, 4a between operative and out-of-the-way positions. The cutting unit 2 is adjustable along cross-grooves 5, 5a so that its spindle 2a may be coaxial with the lower spindle 9. The groove 5 may be arranged in a slide 32 which, with the cutting unit secured thereto by a toggle screw 8, can be removed from the operating area of the machine table 1 and placed on a receiving plate 33. When the unit is again required to be operated, the slide is replaced on the table abutting an edge 32a so that the tool is in position without requiring further adjustment. The machine has two stop-bars 10 which are longitudinally spaced on the machine table and are of ground steel. Each bar is connected by a pair of links 11, Fig. 2, to a contact rail 12, the bar being adjustable relative to the rail by a screw 13. A clamping plate 22 is disposed above the rail and bar and a screw 19 is disposed in the rail and has a T-member 16 at its lower end for engaging a longitudinal groove in the machine table and a toggle nut 21 which serves both to clamp the rail to the table and to clamp a link 11 to prevent movement between the rail and table. The assembly of stop-bar and contact rail may be mounted on a plate 26, Fig. 11, connected by a pivot 27 to a plate 25 adapted to be fixed to the machine table, a screw-and-nut arrangement 28, 29 being provided to adjust the angular position of the stop bar and a surface 30 of the plate 26 which supports a workpiece to be machined. The receiving plate 33 for the cutting unit when removed from the machine table may be fixed to the table or be on a separate stand 35, Fig. 5, the plate being adjustable about a pivot 39 and vertically adjustable by a spindle 37 and hand wheel 38. The plate may also be rotated through 180 degrees about a vertical axis so that the cutting unit may operate on a further machine table. The machine table 1 is provided with channels 41, 42, Fig. 6, through which shavings produced during operation of the machine fall to the rear of the machine. If only the lower spindle 9 is being used, the opening 40 of the channel 41 may be closed by a cover 43. A roller table 45, Fig. 1, is traversable along a rail 46 and is adjustable transversely of the rail. The table has a pair of apertures 57 in which posts 50, Fig. 7 and 9, may be fixed, each post having an angularly adjustable stop-bar 54 and arms 51 carrying clamps 52 for workpieces 49 which can be moved past the tools for tenon- ing or cutting. |
