A collecting device for liquid phase pyrolysates comprises a container 13 containing an electric heating element 10 shaped at 11 to receive the sample to be pyrolysed, an opening in the top of the container receiving a removable plate 20 which is transparent to electromagnet radiations of the wavelengths of interest for spectral analysis, one side of the plate 20 being exposed to the interior of the container 13 and the other side to the atmosphere outside the container, a connection 18 for connecting the container 13 to a source of subatmospheric pressure via a valve 16 operable by a handle 17 and connections 9 for supplying electric power to the element 10. To condense the liquid on to the plate 20, the latter may be strongly cooled such as by a metal block 30 which has been cooled in liquid nitrogen. The plate 20 is then spectrally analysed either by transmission or by attenuated total reflection. |
