PURPOSE: A composition using aloin, aloesin, or aloe gel is provided to prevent deletion of colon mucosa and to lower leukotriene B4, TNF-alpha and PGE2 plasma concentration. CONSTITUTION: A composition for treating inflammatory bowel diseases contains aloesin as an active ingredient. The inflammatory bowel diseases are ulcerative colitis, crohn's disease, celiac disease, intestinal Behcet disease, celiac disease, or ischemic enteritis. The composition is a pharmaceutical composition or food composition. The pharmaceutical composition contains pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and excipient.
