PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve authentication accuracy of identification processing (1: N authentication) without deteriorating convenience, in personal authentication using biological information. SOLUTION: A biometric authentication device includes: a means for storing contour images of a predetermined body portion of a plurality of registrants and biological images existing in contour shapes of the contour images as registration data; a means for acquiring a contour image of the predetermined body portion of a user and a biological image existing in the contour shape of the contour image as collation data, for identification processing; a means for aligning the positions of the biological image of the collation data with the biological images of the registration data to calculate similarity; a means for selecting the registration data on the basis of the calculated similarity; a means for extracting a difference characteristic from contour images of the registration data and the contour image of the collation data when two or more selected registration data exist; a means for refining the registration data on the basis of the extracted difference characteristic to obtain an authentication result; and a means for outputting the authentication result.
