Annular coloured markings B 1 , B 2 are made on moving insulated conductor W by ink or marking liquid ejected from apertures 72 in rotating hollow wheels 68, 70, 680, 700, whose rotation is so synchronized that wheels 68, 70 each produce aligned half bands B 1 of a first colour and wheels 680, 700 similar aligned half bands B 2 of a second colour, located between the annular bands so produced of the first colour, synchronization of the pairs of wheels 68, 70 and 680, 700 being obtained by driving wheels 680, 700 indirectly from a shaft of one of the wheels 68, 70. The pairs of wheels 68, 70 and 680, 700 are each contained in a split housing 42, 44, with a perforate partition 46 and a drainage channel for ink. Ink is supplied to the wheels through the hollow shafts which carry them. The angular positions of wheels 68, 70 are relatively adjusted, if the markings made by them are not in registration by vertical movement of the associated pulley 134 by screw 140, tension in belt 124 being maintained by spring- biased movement of pulley 128. Similarly the angular positions of wheels 680, 700 are relatively adjusted by movement of the appropriate pulleys 134, 128. Movement together of wheels 680, 700 so as to adjust the position on wire W, relative to bands B 1 , of bands B 2 , is carried out by vertical movement of pulley 190, slack in belt 168 being taken up by biased pulley 180. Preferably the belts employed, and where appropriate the pulleys, are cogged.</p> |
