[Also in Division G2] The compounds where X- is an anion; n is 1 or 2; R 2 and R 3 are H, 1-4 C alkoxy groups, or 1-8 C alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or cycloalkyl groups optionally containing hetero atoms or substituted by halogen, alkyl, aryl, nitro, sulphonic acid, hydroxy, carboxy, amido, carbalkoxy, alkoxy, alkylamido, dialkylamido, or dialkylamino groups, or R 2 and R 3 together form a fused aromatic mono- or polycyclic ring system optionally substituted by any of the groups specified for R 2 and R 3 separately; R 1 is halogen, nitro, sulphonic acid, carboxy, amido, carbalkoxy, alkoxy, alkylamido, dialkyl-amido, dialkylamino or one of the groups specified for R 2 and R 3 taken separately; R 5 is H, 1-4 C alkyl groups, phenyl or sub-phenyl group; R 4 when n = 1 is one of the groups specified for R 1 and when n = 2 is 1-4 C alkylene chain or a chemical bond, are prepared when n = 1 by reacting the compound with HNO 3 to form which is reacted with p-toluene sulphonyl hydride in methanol saturated with HCl. When n = 2 the compound IV where R 4 = H is treated with an N-alkoxymethyl-N,N-dialkylamine to obtain the corresponding 8 - 81 - methylene - bis - (5,6- dihydroxy - 4a - ozonia - anthracene bromides) which is converted to the corresponding 8-81- methylene - bis - (6 - diazo - 5 - oxo - 4a - azozonia anthracene salts) as above.</p> |
