The cell (100) has a light source (106) placed at an end (116) of a measuring chamber (112), and a light sensor (110) placed at another end (118) of the measuring chamber such that a light beam (120) emitted from the light source into the measuring chamber strikes the light sensor. A control unit (168) re-adjusts a radiation power of the light source such that strength of an output signal of the light sensor in the absence of fluid i.e. exhaust gas in the measuring chamber corresponds to a particular value independent of the degree of soiling of the measuring chamber.
