<p>In a subsea power cable, particularly an HVDC power cable, each conductor core 2 is surrounded by a corrugated water-blocking layer 4. The water-blocking layer is composed of a copper alloy rather than copper so as to provide superior cracking resistance. Â The copper alloy may comprise copper alloyed with nickel, manganese, beryllium, zinc, aluminium. In particular copper alloys C70600, C75100, C17000, C71640, C68800 or C26000 may be used. Â A method of manufacturing the cable and a method of transmitting electricity with the cable is also described.</p> |
