The Specification describes a facsimile apparatus having means for scanning a document, &c. and transmitting the resultant signals and means for producing a recording from received signals, wherein both said means share a common scanning member 11 in the form of a rotating many sided pyramidal mirror assembly - see Fig. 1, the scanned light from the document 89 being reflected off of one side of the assembly and the light from a source 120, intensity modulated in accordance with the received signals being reflected off of the other side of the assembly on to the recording assembly. The document 89, on a drum 90 rotated by motor 91 is illuminated along an axial line by the light from a source 92. The light reflected from the document is reflected by mirror 94 on to scanning assembly 11. As this rotates, under the action of motor 104, the light reflected upwards by the assembly scans along the illuminated line of the document. The document is thus scanned over its entire surface, successive mirrors on assembly 11 scanning successive lines. The scanned line is fed to a photo-multiplier 118 and transmitter 119, via lenses 105, 113, mirror 114 and lens 117. The output of the transmitter may be fed to modulate light source 120, as well as to remote reproducing means. The light from source is focused by lens 125 and reflected by mirror 126 on to scanning assembly 11. The scanning beam of light thus reflected from the mirrors of assembly 11 is reflected by mirror 129 on to the drum 131 of a zerographic reproducing assembly, Fig. 3 (not shown). An externally received signal may be reproduced using receiver 143. Figs. 4, 5 and 6 show optical arrangements whereby, strip recorded material, books and film may be scanned, whilst Fig. 7 shows how an optical arrangement for scanning strip recorded material can be converted into one for scanning film. |
