<p>The IOL comprises a hydrophobic lens main portion (1) made of silicon, that is equipped with a hydrophilic layer (2) wholly or mainly made of poly acrylic acid (PAA), on a micro-roughened surface. The hydrophilic layer is a plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD)/CVD layer, and swellable by water. The molecules of the hydrophilic layer are incorporated on the micro-roughened surfaceof the hydrophobic lens main portion. The incorporated molecules of the hydrophilic layer are cross-linked with molecules of a polymer lens main portion. An independent claim is included for a method for hydrophilizing the surface of an intraocular lens.</p> |
