In a discharge lamp in which part of the inner surface of the envelope has a reflecting coating of titanium dioxide which is itself covered by a fluorescent coating, up to 1% by weight of antimony or antimony trioxide is incorporated in the reflecting coating, to prevent the photochemical reduction of the titanium dioxide, with consequent reduction in light output, during operation of the lamp. A fluorescent coating may cover either the whole or only part of the envelope (Fig. 1 and 2, not shown).
