A remote controller and a controlling method of a multimedia device are disclosed. The multimedia device which is connected to an external electronic device by an embodiment of the present invention includes: a memory which stores at least one character string and corresponding OSD graphic data; a video processor which processes a video image which is received form the external electronic device; a detecting module which detects a character string in the video image; a controller which extracts OSD graphic data which corresponds to the detected character string by accessing the memory; a display module which outputs the extracted OSD graphic data; and a communication module which transmits a command signal which corresponds to a specific area to the external electronic device or the remote controller in case the specific area is selected from the OSD graphic data.
