The present invention relates to an energy dissipation method of waves approaching to the coast which minimizes the damage caused by the approach of the waves to the coast by burying a caisson on the ground such as the coast such as a sandy beach or a mud flat and filling the caisson with a part of water forming the waves and dissipating energy of the waves when the waves having big energy such as a tsunami approach to the coast. The present invention buries a caisson (10) of a hollowed container shape on the ground to contain water. The top of the caisson (10) is covered by a cover (20). An explosion device (30) capable of exploding and eliminating the cover (20) is installed on the cover (20). When waves of a wall shape approach to the coast, the explosion device (30) is exploded and the cover (20) is eliminated. A part of the water forming the waves is contained in the caisson (10) at the lower part of the waves. The present invention provides the energy dissipation method of waves approaching to the coast which breaks down the wall shape of the waves before reaching the coast and dissipates energy of the waves.
