A solid externally-burning rocket propellent charge, other than an end-burning charge, comprises at least two propellants of different burning rates, so arranged that on burning, one part of the burning surface proceeds in a direction towards a central axis of the charge, and another part of the surface proceeds at an angle to this direction. A cylindrical charge is shown in cross-section in Fig. 1 and comprises a highburning rate propellant 2 in the form of a star embedded in a low-burning rate propellant 1. During combustion, the area of the burning surface 3, and hence the thrust, remain substantially constant. |
