[Also in Division D1] A traversing mechanism 21 for winding yarn on to a rotating bobbin is reciprocated along guide bars 26, 27 by an endless belt 18, there being a sliding bar 35 in the traversing mechanism for causing a gripper block 30 to press alternately against the two spans of the belt 18. The sliding bar 35 carries a bearing race that protects into an inclined groove 38 in the gripper block 30. The stroke of the traversing member is controlled by two striker plates 45 acting on a control valve 48 carried by the member 21. As the member 21 rises an upper stem 49 extending from the valve 48 strikes the upper plate 45 and compressed air from a source 59 is then directed by the valve 48 to a piston and cylinder unit 41 coupled to the bar 35 such that the bar 35 is moved upwardly. Upward movement of the bar 35 moves the gripper block 30 against the left hand span of the belt 18 and the traversing member 21 then moves downwardly. When the lower stem 50, extending from the valve 48, strikes the lower plate 45 the valve 48 causes the piston and cylinder unit to move the bar 35 downwardly and the gripper block 30 is then moved against the right hand span of the belt 18 to cause the traversing member 21 to move upwardly. Varying the stroke.-As the winding of the bobbin progresses the striker plates 45, 46 are slowly moved towards each other by a rotating screw 71 having its opposite ends oppositely threaded. The striker plates 45, 46 are connected to the screw 71 by spring loaded levers 75 having jaws 76 adapted to mesh with the threads on the screw 71. By squeezing the levers 75 together the jaws 76 open and the striker plates can be quickly moved back to their starting positions. |
