The present invention relates to a smart key apparatus capable of using outside power and a method thereof. The smart key apparatus capable of using outside power can use portable devices as outside power when a battery is discharged. According to the present invention, outside power can be used by connecting to a portable device without using a mechanical key when the battery is discharged so that door lock/release of a vehicle and starting a car can be possible. Especially, long distance door lock/release can be possible through RF.
