LIQUID CRYSTAL LENS PANEL, THREE DIMENSIONAL PANEL ASSEMBLY AND DISPLAY APPARATUS HAVING THE SAME

A liquid crystal lens panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate includes: a first base substrate; a lens common electrode which is placed on the first base substrate; and a first alignment layer which is placed on the lens common electrode and has a first alignment direction. The second substrate includes: a second base substrate which faces the first base substrate; a plurality of lens electrodes which are extended along a lens axis on the second base substrate and are arranged in parallel to each other; and a second alignment layer which is placed on the lens electrodes and have a second alignment direction perpendicular to the first alignment direction. The liquid crystal layer is placed between the first and second alignment layers. The first alignment direction can be perpendicular to the lens axis. With a 90-degree twisted liquid crystal alignment, the liquid crystal lens panel is able to display a three-dimensional image with or without glasses. Furthermore, aλ/2 phase delay film, which changes the polarization direction as much as the inclination angle of the lens electrodes, is placed between a liquid crystal display panel and the liquid crystal lens panel, thereby reducing optical loss.
