PURPOSE: A portable storage device with an automatic program execution function and a method thereof are provided to automatically execute a specific program included in the portable storage device when a user puts the portable storage device in a host computer. CONSTITUTION: A non-volatile memory unit(11) comprises a read-only domain(111) with an installation program and a target program. When a host computer(20) is connected, a memory controller(12) is recognized as a disk driver device for an operating system of the host computer and recognizes the read-only domain as first volume. When the installation program is executed, the host computer installs and executes a monitoring program in the first volume. The monitoring program monitors whether or not a portable storage device is inserted into the host computer in a background.
