An apparatus and a method for transmitting/receiving a digital broadcast are provided to improve the reception performance of a receiver in a state of maintaining compatibility with an ATSC(Advanced Television System Committee). A parity generating unit(120) generates the first parity of each of a plurality of data, classifies the plurality of data into a pre-set number of groups, and generates the second parity of each group. A parity adding unit(130) adds the generated first and second parties to the data. A transmitting unit(160) transmits the parity-added data. The parity adding unit adds the first parity to an adaptation field of each packet including the plurality of data. The parity generating unit classifies each four data into a group and generates the second parity with respect to the four data by group. An FEC(Forward Error Correction) coding unit performs FEC coding on the data. A modulation unit(150) modulates the FEC-coded data. |
