The unstacker (3) has a serializing unit i.e. motorized perforated belt, that faces flat postal items (2) e.g. letter, that is to be unstacked edgewise from a stack, where the serializing unit exerts a gripping force in a gripping direction (D2) transverse to a longitudinal direction (D1) for separating the flat postal items of the stack in the gripping direction. A carrier (4) supporting the flat postal items is partly inclined in the gripping direction at an angle (alpha) of 30 degrees. The support is removable with regard to the serializing unit and is interchangeable with another support.
