Disclosed is a method for preparing a gel electrolyte separator for a thin film supercapacitor. The method includes the steps of: impregnating a hydrophobic porous polyethylene thin film with acetone for 20 minutes; and impregnating the said thin film with 50 wt% sulfuric acid for 48 hours. According to the present invention, a new alkaline water-based polymer gel electrolyte is prepared by mixing poly(acrylic acid)-potassium with KOH, and a composite of a high ion-conductive solid polymer gel electrolyte separator with high mechanical properties is attained by impregnating a porous polyethylene thin film the hydrophobic surface of which is reformed to be hydrophilic, with the alkaline water-based polymer gel electrolyte.
