The method involves heating a section of a plate to a temperature for obtaining softening of plastic contained in the plate. A section of the plate is folded without extension in an outer convex side (20) of the plate by a retaining unit comprising a flexible guide (13). A fixing unit is arranged for fixing the guide against the convex side. The fixing unit is arranged with a pair of jaws (101, 102). A curved zone of the plate is cooled after folding by applying a hose (41) that circulates a pressurized liquid coolant i.e. water, against the guide. An independent claim is also included for an installation for folding a plate.
