CAD-Based System for Product Definition, Inspection and Validation

Various embodiments pertain to techniques for displaying and interacting with two-dimensional (2-D) drawing views in a three-dimensional (3-D) modeling environment within a computer-aided design (CAD) system. In various embodiments, the application programmable interface (API) of the CAD system is configured to enable 2-D drawing views to be displayed in the CAD system's 3-D modeling environment. The drawing views are assembled and oriented in 3-D space relative to one another and in relation to a 3-D model of the object that they define. In various embodiments, the drawing views can be projected onto surfaces bounding a volume that contains or confines a 3-D model of the object. Those surfaces may be corresponding planar faces of a cube or other polyhedron that contains or confines a 3-D model of the object.
