PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water purification material in which carbon fibers hardly come off during water purification.SOLUTION: A water purification material includes a braid including at least carbon fibers. In the water purification material, it is preferable that the braid includes a main line part 11, and branch line parts 12 provided on the side face of the main line part 11 by projecting a part of carbon fibers constituting the braid from the side face of the main line part 11.
