PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission and reception device and a content transmission method which are suitable for protecting copyright of a content such as video audio stored at home when a user transmits the content via a network.SOLUTION: A content transmission device 100 comprises: a communication processing unit 113 which performs transmission and reception of data with a content reception device via a network; an apparatus authentication processing unit 108 which authenticates the content reception device and transmits key information; and an encryption processing unit 112 which encrypts a content to be transmitted to the content reception device by using the key information. The apparatus authentication processing unit executes: first apparatus authentication processing for performing authentication of the content reception device on the basis of a first home verification method; and second apparatus authentication processing for performing authentication of the content reception device on the basis of a second home verification method for accepting access to the content from outside of the home.
