PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biscarbazole derivative which has both of a positive hole transport capacity and an electron transport capacity and is excellent in a carrier balance and to provide a material for organic EL elements and a long-life phosphorescent organic EL element obtained by using the material for organic EL elements.SOLUTION: The biscarbazole derivative is shown by formula (2). In formula (2), Ais a substituted or unsubstituted quinazoline ring; Ais a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon group, a substituted or unsubstituted condensed aromatic hydrocarbon group, a substituted or unsubstituted nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group or a substituted or unsubstituted nitrogen-containing condensed aromatic heterocyclic group, each of which groups independently has a specific number of ring forming carbons; Xand Xare linking groups; and Yto Yare substituents.
