The device has a unit for closing the lower- and upper end of a sample tube (12), and a suspension is provided for lowering and releasing the sample tube. A lifting eye (6) is arranged as the suspension, which is operatively connected to the units for closing the upper- and lower ends of the sample tube through a locking unit (10). The unit for closing the lower end of the sample tube is provided as a sealing unit, which is provided with two folding arms (3). Each folding arm has an adjustable extension (4) and a closure plate (5) arranged between the folding arms. The folding arms are movably arranged on the front side of two side plates (2) through a bearing (7). An independent claim is included for a method for sample taking of the soft sediments with a sample tube.
