Provided is an information input device in which execution of a function of an apparatus not intended by a user by way of an accidental pointing operation is avoided. The information input device is provided with: a pointing-object detection unit (42) which detects position and/or orientation of a pointing object in a 3-dimensional space; a pointer position determination unit (44) which determines the position of a pointer to be displayed on a display screen (52) so as to correspond to the position and/or orientation that has been detected; a storage unit (46) which acquires a time-series of position information indicating determined positions and retains the same; a first pass-through detection unit (48) which uses the time-series of position information to detect if the pointer has passed through a first specific area which is a predefined area on the display screen; a direction determines unit (50) which, if pass-through has been detected, determines the direction of the pointer when passing through the first specific area; and a first image modification unit (62) which, in accordance with the determined direction, modifies the displayed image.
