Disclosed are a communication method, device and system for a device to device communication system. The method comprises: a first user equipment receiving a configuration message from a network side, the configuration message carrying configuration information about a device to device communication discovery signal; according to the configuration information carried in the configuration message, the first user equipment detecting a device to device communication discovery signal from a second user equipment; according to the detection result, the first user equipment sending a request message to the network side, so as to request to acquire the identity information about the second user equipment sending the device to device communication discovery signal detected; and the first user equipment receiving a response message returned by the network side, the response message carrying the identity information about the second user equipment or discovery rejection information for indicating to refuse the first user equipment to discover the second user equipment. The present invention can solve the problem of peer discovery in the device to device (D2D) communications in a cellular communication system.
