PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of obtaining beautiful display with high resolution even when an image display element with high luminance and high definition is used.SOLUTION: A projection type display device comprises a light source, a color separation element, a plurality of image display elements, a color synthesis prism having a plurality of resin-made optical elements attached thereto, and a projection lens; and each of the resin-made optical elements has glass material attached to a surface on the opposite side of the color synthesis prism. In the plurality of resin-made optical elements attached to the color synthesis prism, when energy absorbed by the optical elements is E in a display pattern in which the optical elements absorb energy the most, a thickness of the glass material attached to the optical elements is D, a variation in refractive index according to temperature is dn/dt, and a length in a diagonal direction of the image display elements is P, the following formula is established: D/P>0.2, 1≤(Ex(dn/dt)x(D/P))MAX/(Ex(dn/dt)x(D/P))MIN≤1.5. |
