An Improved Handle and Lock Assembly

Abstract The present invention relates to a handle and lock assembly which includes a support base, a handle and a shaft. The support base is capable of being fitted to an object. The handle is mounted on and rotatable about the support base. The handle includes a bore for receiving a 5 lock assembly which includes a lock cylinder and a clutching mechanism. The shaft extends from the lock assembly for connection with a latching mechanism. The clutching mechanism is capable of causing the lock assembly to directly or indirectly engage with the handle when the lock cylinder is in an unlocked position. The clutching mechanism is also capable of enabling the handle to rotate independently of the lock assembly when the lock cylinder is 1o turned through a predetermined angle to a locked position.
