Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for determining the validity of a capacitive touch input. According to the method, the apparatus determines the validity of a capacitive touch input when a touch input is initiated, by detecting whether a user actually initiated the touch input on a capacitive touch panel. Therefore, conventional capacitive touch failures can be prevented as the apparatus determines the validity of a capacitive touch input and either accepts or discards the touch input.
