A reference image is captured using one of the image capture devices configured to operate in accordance with a first set of capture settings. The reference image is inserted into a placeholder of a document (100). Target characteristics of a subsequent image to be captured are determined using one ) of the image capture devices (801). The target characteristics are determined based on characteristics of the reference image and characteristics of at least one remaining placeholder in the document (100). A second set of capture settings are determined for one or more of the image capture devices based on the determined target characteristics. The second set of capture settings are communicated to at least one of the image capture devices (801) in order 5 to enable the at least one image capture device to capture the subsequent image in accordance with the second set of capture settings.
