A method of iteratively screening a sample of electrolytic capacitors comprises iteratively measuring the leakage current of a set of capacitors and removing from the set any capacitors with a measurement equal to or above a predetermined value, which can be one or more standard deviations from the mean. After the first iteration and removal the surviving capacitors can be subjected to a burn in treatment where a test voltage is applied, before undergoing a second iteration of leakage current testing and rejection, the surviving capacitors forming a third set. Because of such iterative screening, the capacitors in the third set have low failure rates. Additionally the predicted failure rate of the capacitors can be determined by burning in the capacitors and subjecting them to a life test, and determining the failure rate based on the number of capacitors having a leakage current above a predetermined level. |
