<p>A system for automatically activating a temperature control system for a vehicle cabin, the system comprising: means for determining an optimal pre conditioning time in dependence on vehicle journey start time data associated with a plurality of vehicle journeys; means for determining a range of acceptable temperatures in dependence on a desired vehicle cabin internal temperature, said range of acceptable temperatures being defined between first and second limit temperatures; means for determining a time period during which the vehicle cabin temperature will lie within the range of acceptable temperatures in dependence on vehicle cabin temperature data and said first and second limit temperatures; and means for setting an activation time of the temperature control system in dependence on the optimal pre-conditioning time and said time period during which the vehicle cabin internal temperature will lie within the range of acceptable temperatures. The means for determining an optimal pre-conditioning time may comprise: a means operable in an initial learning phase configured to collect a data set including vehicle journey start time data associated with a plurality of vehicle journeys; means operable in the initial learning phase configured to determine a pattern of use model based on the data set; and means configured to determine, for a subsequent phase of use of the vehicle which follows the initial learning phase, a vehicle journey start time based on the determined pattern of use model.. Also disclosed is the method performed by the above system. Further disclosed is a media storage device storing a computer program designed to perform the above method. Also disclosed is a vehicle comprising the above system.</p> |
