The porous material comprises open celled foam blocks 44, which are preferably contoured, so as to be keyed into the curable material 40. Particles (granular material) 30 are preferably embedded into the opposing side of the curable material 40, or onto a fabric or film applied thereto. The particles 30 are preferably sand, but may also be terracotta dust or marble chippings, provided that they give the appearance of stone. The laminate can be formed by moulding, and/or by use of a heated platen 25. The curable material 40 is preferably a sheet moulding compound (SMC) comprising a fibre reinforced thermosetting resin. The laminate can be attached to another surface. It can be used in panels for buildings (doors, windows, banisters), furniture (tables, worktops, chairs), picture frames, bowls, vase, lamps, or anything which requires bullet proof properties. |
